There is no Catalan Film Festival without the presence of our extended family, the film makers that made some of the best titles of the year and can speak in first person about the film industry in Catalunya, the impact it has beyond its borders and the meaning of being part to one of the strongest power houses in filmmaking in Europe.

This year we are eagerly expecting

PILAR PALOMERO

Pilar Palomero, director and screenwriter, is the latest revelation in Spanish cinema. Her debut feature Schoolgirls was the big winner at the 2021 Goya Awards, obtaining nine nominations and winning in the categories of Best Film, Best New Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography. With her second feature film, La maternal, she received three Goya Award nominations in the categories of Best Film, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress.

About Glimmers, Pilar Palomero says: “From the first moment I was intrigued by this story which, broadly speaking, talked about the forced reunion between a couple that didn’t work out. I felt that this conflict allowed me to talk about how contradictory and complex the bonds we create can be, and above all, to propose a reflection about the marks we leave and the marks left on us, that make us who we are.”

Pilar will be with us from the 25th till the 27th of March introducing The Glimmers in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

MAR COLL

Coll’s debut feature, the 2009 family drama Three Days With the Family, launched at the Málaga Film Festival, earning nominations for Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Actor. The director went on to claim both the Goya Award for Best New Director and the Gaudí Award for Best Director for this work.

In 2013, Coll unveiled We All Want What’s Best for Her at the Valladolid International Film Festival, featuring Nora Navas portraying a discontent housewife.

Coll helmed the 2018 mini-series Killing the Father, before directing the series Això no és Suècia in 2023.

Salve Maria, Coll’s 2024 screen adaptation of Katixa Agirre’s novel Mothers Don’t, made its debut at the 77th Locarno Film Festival, garnering a Special Mention for Best Performance in the international competition.

Mar will be with us from the 20th till the 22nd of March introducing her fil Salve Maria in Edinburgh.

ALBA BRESOLI

Alba Bresolí Aliberch (Muntanyola, 1995) completed her undergraduate studies in Communication and Filmmaking before pursuing a Master’s in Creative Documentary at Pompeu Fabra University. Her short documentary El día que volaron la montaña (2022) received a Gaudí Awards nomination and was showcased at leading film festivals including IDFA, Documentamadrid, Sheffield DocFest, Malaga, D’A Film Festival, and others.

Her fourth short film, El bon auguri, furthers her investigation into the endurance of rural living. She combines her directorial work with artistic projects such as the video installation Illa de Carn, which delves into purine-related themes, while also working as a programmer for festivals like DocsBarcelona, GoShort, Memorimage, and Mostra VOC.

Alba has the distinguished honour of being invited twice to cinemaattic and will join us to present her film across the highlands.

Alba will be accompanying us from the 28th to the 31st of March.
