Opening Night – Glasgow – Downriver a Tiger

March 18 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

£6 – £10

We open the festival in Glasgow with an event in collaboration with the Glasgow Short Film Festival, where we will present the UK premiere of Downriver, a Tiger. A Catalan film about a photographer from Barcelona living in Glasgow seemed like an absolutely perfect combination of Scottish and Catalonian stories and couldn’t be a better fit for the Catalan Film Festival. Its clever blend of fiction and archival footage from The National Library of Scotland tells a beautiful story relating to the experience of living abroad, but also to local history and Glasgow’s people.

After the screening, we will be joined by the film’s director, Victor Diago, as well as lead actors Julia Diago and Shubham Kirve, for a Q and A.

About the film:

Júlia arrived some time ago in Glasgow from Barcelona. She wanted to start from scratch. Years have passed and she seems stuck: in the mornings she tries to pursue her career as a photographer, at night she cleans dishes in a restaurant. One afternoon, while taking portraits of pedestrians crossing a bridge, one of her eyes begins to fail. As the illness begins to spread, Júlia will begin a search into the past to the depths of Glasgow and its history. The river will carry her towards a memory: the day she met a mysterious group of people who pulled objects from the depths of the river. Among them was a boy, Shubham, who also came to the city from far away in search of a new life.
